Amdurius Says:
Aug 12, 2010 - @WeAreTheRobots If by "highly disputable," you mean "wrong." It orbits the Sun, not the Earth. From Earth's perspective, it doesn't even travel in a circle around us.
WeAreTheRobots Says:
Aug 13, 2010 - @Amdurius With "disputable" I had in mind the possibility of future changes in definitions.Since Cruithne is in a 1:1 resonance with Earth, this gives the latter an important role shaping its orbit nonetheless. Computer simulations suggest that in the future, Cruithne may become a "true" satellite for a few thousand years.Furthermore, after the changes resulting from IAU's resolution of 2006 on the definition of "planet", I prefer being careful with my assertions. :)

Aug 15, 2010 - its actually not the second moon
7tnorris Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - Instead of calling this show QI they should call it BS! Once again they are making up crap. Earth has one moon. The asteroid that they are calling a moon doesn't fit the definition of a moon.
DaveKurtandFaye Says:
Aug 16, 2010 - @7tnorris maybe you shouldnt watch clips of it on youtube mmkay? its an entertainment show
jamgilp Says:
Aug 17, 2010 - They updated this moon business in a later series if I remember correctly. Rich Hall isn't a fan of the topic.
TheTwelfthApostle Says:
Aug 18, 2010 - nineteen ninety fucking four!!
Sheshant Says:
Aug 18, 2010 - The atmosphere down their at that studio, at that time, amongst them ppl on stage was actually quite vile. Stephen is actually pissed off that his guests are mocking the quality of his research and carries on well past the moment when Alan starts doing "not white middle class men doing that!". If you pay attention to Stephen's accent just before he says that phrase, he mimics Alan's speech slurring speaking like disorder. However, Stephen has the last say with a very wry but interesting message.
Sheshant Says:
Aug 18, 2010 - i be blazzzzing bruv hahaha!
karn33333 Says:
Aug 19, 2010 - @7tnorris if they did that they would get sued by penn and teller.
MISTtumbles Says:
Aug 20, 2010 - 19 90 fucking 4! XD, but, asteriods do not count, so there's only one moon.
Mackerni Says:
Aug 22, 2010 - Well, Earth only has one moon, because there is only one moon. Our moon is the only moon because other "moons" are actually satellites so they should have asked, "How many natural satellites does the Earth have?" And then the answer would be, "two".
manaman70 Says:
Aug 23, 2010 - "People have been busy on the internet on our behalf"What the hell? I spent the whole time watching this clip thinking the show aired around the mid 90's.
theonlyguyontheleft Says:
Aug 24, 2010 - 3753 Cruithne (pronounced /ˈkrɪnjə/, from Old Irish [ˈkrɪθnɛ]; Modern [ˈkrɪhnʲə] or [ˈkrɪnʲə]) is an asteroid in orbit around the Sun in 1:1 orbital resonance with that of the Earth. It is a periodic inclusion planetoid orbiting the Sun in an apparent horseshoe orbit.[2] It has been incorrectly called "Earth's second moon", but it is only a quasi-satellite.According to Wikipedia and/or God.It doesn't even orbit the earth.

Aug 24, 2010 - That first quote was from the 2H2G, lol.

Aug 24, 2010 - @karn33333 LOL True! I had not thought of that! ;-)

caigor Says:
Aug 30, 2010 - and its not the earth's second. its actually a quasi-satellite, which is a semi-planet that orbits around a star but evetually comes close to another planet
jamesahibbard Says:
Aug 31, 2010 - @theonlyguyontheleft They actually asked the same question again in season 2, the answer being 1, as they were incorrect in this series..they admitted it.
theonlyguyontheleft Says:
Aug 31, 2010 - @jamesahibbard And here I thought you were calling me an ass. but yes, I love the show and I know they do do that from time to time.
WillShakespeare2007 Says:
Sep 2, 2010 - Stephen Fry will read anything you put in front of him. Earth has one moon the Moon. Cruithne orbits the sun and was discovered in 1986 not 1994 or 1997. Perhaps they could have said that because the earth has many satellites and they could loosely be described as moons the earth has 1000 moons. Not that accurate but more accurate than that crap.
eviatkin Says:
Sep 2, 2010 - "who comes un with this s*it"HAHHHHHHHAAA

ZukutoBTD Says:
Aug 9, 2010 - Earth has one moon.Quasi-satellites do not count as moons.
